Our trip to Tucson was a success! Tom and I worked with a team to paint two buildings, inside and out. It was not an easy task since the buildings were made of handmade, porous bricks! We also helped lead a Vacation Bible School for the local church. We had a lesson from the Bible, a craft, an activity and snacks. I was in charge of the outdoor activities and Tom ended up leading the teens through some deeper spiritual matters. It was a challenge for him since we did not expect teens. The flyer we put out said "ages 6-12." But it was in the Lord's plans! Another challenge for him was that 1/2 of the group spoke only Spanish and the other half only English. He did get help from a translator. All in all it was a good trip, and as Tom's first missions trip, I am glad that the Lord challenged him (all of us) and allowed him to experience Christians in another culture.
Another development that has happened quickly is that I registered for school! The day I graduated UNF I said I'd never go back to school. Well, I am going to a vocational tech school to be a Medical Assistant, and I start Monday! I am excited to change areas of profession, and we are praying that in the end I'll have a job at the Children's Hospital here in the valley. I've been trying to get a job there for over a year, and without any medical experience, it's quite near impossible to get a foot in the door! In 7 months I'll be done - my goals are to be a valedictorian and get my externship at the Children's Hospital.
We also just found out that SkyWest is adding a base to LAX, which means, possibly, some senior captains here in FAT just might move. This would help make an opportunity for Tom to be able to upgrade to captain here! This is huge news for us! So we are definitely praying for that!
